Since Apps have been a subject of interest to me already before this thesis started, I took this opportunity to do some research and comparison. I finally had an excuse to spend time exploring this topic!

The concept we wanted to explain with these supporting visuals was called “The Habaluc Explorer App”. The function of the App was basically location based exploring of Events; today or in near future.

It was comparable to a lot of Apps that currently existed. I was already using some of them, and then I downloaded another load upon research and recommendation.

The images here will show you the final result. Please find below the entire case study.

Students from all areas form multi-disciplinary groups. The thesis I chose was shared with a Business Design student and an Art Direction/Advertising student.

The client was Habaluc - a startup company, that wanted to launch the first online platform for events in Spain.

In general, the brief was quite open: Create a Business Marketing Plan that would benefit the startup.

The experience was very interesting, different and challenging - a time of extremes and huge growth. Having to work with other people exposes you to new challenges, in most cases of even more complex nature than any other technical or creative issue. During the same months i was also doing an internship. Being able to combine what I was learning in both places, I have really been able to make the most out of the past few months.

I have learned a lot on the presenting part - something I have struggled with since starting this school. Also of course I have learned quite something of business marketing, communication and web & app design, topics I had already been interested in.

During the whole thesis I participated in the creation of data visualization pieces such as graphs, the design & creation of the three client presentations, conceptualization of business solutions, market research including focus groups & surveys, content creation and the design & production of all the final documentation that you can see.

I further also designed four App mock ups, and some website screenshots. (see App Design - Habaluc)

To me, a Collage is the most visual explanation of what Graphic Design is; a combination of elements, creation of new constellations with bits and pieces that are an already existing matter, which eventually are consumed and learned information from your lived and experienced past.

These Collages are from an elder series I created in 2010.

They are completely random and just an expression of chaos, remix, selection...and glue.

I also had the chance to design the program of miniSCREEN, which held information and a schedule for a week of workshops for kids.

The identity of the campaign was designed by the Base team, and miniSCREEN therefore designed to stay in line with that same campaign direction.

I enjoyed a lot working with the kids at the photo shoot, and it was great to benefit from the teams expertise when working the “type-intense” inside of the program.

For the full campaign see BaseDesign.com.

To not make the posters look the same, but for them to be recognisable as part of a series, I chose to use the black square throughout the posters, having taken it over from the museums own identity.

The main goal of this task was to combine two typefaces and to learn to use type sizes accordingly. I further worked with the same grid throughout the three posters.

We had to create the Identity and labels for Olive Oil, Marinara Sauce and Honey - which as you can imagine are three so different products, and challenging to wrap up under one sole identity.

I decided very early that I did not want to use any imagery on the labels - I rather preferred the product to show its great quality.

The die cut seemed to achieve that, while maintaining an elegant and high end look & feel.

Created during my exchange semester with the School of Visual Arts.

We had to do an entire redesign of the Vosges Dark Chocolate Truffles Packaging and Identity.

My approach to this solution happened only after a few trials. A box would be the safest container, but I found it to be too classic and nothing “special”.

This execution awakens a bit more playfulness, but not disregarding the fact that Vosges is a high end brand. The bow and tag add an elegant touch, and the process of unlacing adds to the build-up of wanting to access the desired.

The choice of colours and pattern was made with the thought to stand out compared to the usual dark brown and white packaging of chocolate products.
